Overnight Oats
This is porridge made by time rather than heat: cold liquid softens the flakes completely in eight hours. The chia is not decoration — it binds the liquid so the jar does not separate overnight. The ratio is easy to remember: equal volumes of oats and milk, with the yogurt on top of that for body.

What to use instead
Any plant yogurt works. Coconut gives the thickest result, oat the runniest — adjust the milk accordingly.

Method
-
Step 1: Mix the dry things
Combine the oats, chia and salt in a bowl. Mixing them dry first spreads the chia around so it cannot clump once the liquid arrives.
-
Step 2: Add the liquid
Stir in the cold milk, yogurt and honey until even. The mixture should look looser than you want it to be by morning — the oats still have hours of drinking to do.
-
Step 3: Stir a second time
Ten minutes later, go through it again, scraping the bottom. That second stir is the only thing standing between you and a dry seam of chia under the oats.
-
Step 4: Fill the jars
Divide between two jars, leaving 2–3 cm of headroom. Keep the berries out for now: fresh ones bleed and turn the whole jar watery.
-
Step 5: Leave it overnight
Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours. Four hours is the minimum that makes it edible, but a full night is what gives the smooth, creamy texture.
-
Step 6: Serve cold
Stir in the morning, loosen with a spoonful of milk if needed and pile the berries on top. Frozen berries can go in the night before and thaw in the jar.
Tips & variations
-
Tip
For a thicker jar drop the milk to 150 ml, for a looser one add 50 ml. Resting longer barely changes thickness; only the ratio does.
-
Swap
Any plant yogurt works. Coconut gives the thickest result, oat the runniest — adjust the milk accordingly.
-
Variation
A spoonful of nut butter and a dusting of cocoa turn the same base into an entirely different breakfast.
-
Storage
Three days in the fridge, but keep fresh berries out until serving: with them the mixture thins by day two.
