Mummy Mini Pizzas
When there is no time and no energy for dough and the party is tonight, you reach for bread rolls. Halved, they behave like a ready-made base: toasted at the edges, soft in the middle. The mozzarella bandages go on crosswise with a gap left for the eyes, and that is the whole job.

Method
Oven
200 °C · top and bottom heat, no fan
With a fan: 180 °C
-
Step 1: Heat the oven
Set it to 200°C and line a baking sheet with parchment.
-
Step 2: Dry the bases
Lay the halves cut side up, brush with oil and dry them in the oven for 4 minutes. Do not skip this: sauce soaks straight into a soft bun and the base goes limp.
-
Step 3: Sauce them
Mix the passata with the oregano and spread a thin layer on each half, leaving 5 mm clear at the edge.
-
Step 4: Cut the bandages
Slice the mozzarella into strips about 7 mm wide. They have to be thin — thick ones melt into one puddle of cheese.
-
Step 5: Wrap
Lay the strips across each base at random angles, leaving a clear space in the middle for the eyes.
-
Step 6: Bake
Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the cheese softens at the edges of the strips but still holds its shape.
-
Step 7: Add the eyes
Take them out, drop two olives into the gap and leave for a minute. The hot cheese grips them on its own.
Tips & variations
-
Tip
Add the olives after baking, not before: baked ones shrivel and darken, and the mummy loses its stare.
-
Variation
Ciabatta makes a grown-up version — cut it on the diagonal into 2 cm slices and slip a few rounds of salami under the cheese.
-
Swap
Thin flatbread works too, but bake for 5 minutes at most or it turns into a cracker.
-
Storage
Eat them straight away — the bases soften within 15 minutes. Everything but the baking can be done an hour ahead and kept in the fridge.
