Scrambled Egg for Babies
Egg is one of the foods worth offering early in weaning, and scrambled is the simplest way. A low heat keeps it soft but fully cooked.

Method
-
Step 1: Whisk the egg
Crack the egg into a small bowl, whisk with a fork, add the milk and mix.
-
Step 2: Heat the pan
Melt the spread in a small non-stick pan over a low heat.
-
Step 3: Stir as it cooks
Pour in the egg and stir constantly until it sets in small soft curds.
-
Step 4: Take it off in time
Remove from the heat as soon as no liquid egg is left, before it turns rubbery. Cool to lukewarm.
Tips & variations
-
Tip
For babies the egg is cooked right through: no runny white or yolk.
-
Tip
No salt or sugar, in the food or in the cooking water: babies under one do not need either. The taste comes from the vegetable itself.
-
Variation
Eat together: add a couple more eggs for yourself and serve on toast with tomatoes. Babies learn by watching you.
-
Tip
Egg is a common allergen: offer a little in the morning the first time and watch for a reaction. Offer each new food on its own for a few days running, and check with your health visitor or paediatrician about allergies, age and texture.
